Babbling

Beckett has started babbling A LOT in this past week. Last week he started opening and closing his mouth a lot, kind of like a fish, and this week, mostly starting 2 days ago, he's started adding sound - like na na na na na na na. Here is a video:

He's really good at sitting independently and playing with his toys right now, too.

And we've now given him beets. And he actually liked them!!!

And his hair is growing but mostly on the top of his head. It's really sticking up around his crown right now. Sometimes we call him spike!!

And I'm really hoping not to jinx this by saying anything, but for the last 3 nights he's slept all night - from 7 to 6 or so. I have been feeding him just before we go to bed at 10 or 10:30, but he goes right back to sleep. His wake up times have been getting a little earlier, but that's manageable as long as he sleeps through the night!

And he dances now when you sing to him!! He kind of bops around - it's soooo cute!!

7 months

Well, 7 months has come. Beckett is now 14 lb 11 oz. I don't think this is too bad considering his recent bout with the stomach flu. It took almost 2 full weeks from when it started for the poor little guy to get his appetite for solids back, plus for most of the first week he didn't even have much of an appetite for breastmilk or anything at all to drink. Thank goodness the vomiting is over though!! Of course, Bevan and I also came down with the same bug - I guess this is the start of new germs coming into the house!!

Beckett is doing a great job sitting up now - he loves to sit up and play with his toys, and plays well independently. It's so cool to watch him now with toys like his learning table and fisher-price walker because he is so much better at pushing the buttons. And he'll do something once, realize that it makes the toy react and then he'll do it over and over and over.

He loves to play peek-a-boo - I think it makes him laugh more than anything else. His love for blowing raspberries took a bit of a break, but it's back in full force now!! I think he forgot about it for a while!!

Still no teeth, and no signs of crawling yet. I'm trying to get him to spend as much time on the floor as possible, but every time he finds his way to his tummy he pretty much just freaks out!!

As for food, up until now he has had sweet potatoes, carrots, chicken, green beans, applesauce, pears, peas, acorn squash. We gave him his first organic baby mum mum this week and today he had toast for the first time - I just gave him dry toast cut up into strips. He mostly just gummed it and made it soggy, but he really likes feeding himself so I try to give him stuff he can practice with.

Beckett and I had a movie date again yesterday. We saw "Valentine's Day" - it was a really good movie, and Beckett was a wonderful date - he was very well behaved, no fussing really. He didn't even nap this time, but within 5 seconds of being in the car afterwards he was fast asleep!!!

We've started "The sleepeasy solution" to deal with overnight feedings. Since he is still under 15lb, I get him up twice during the night to feed him, but other than that he is doing a great job and not waking. We've been doing it for just over a week now and for the first few nights he would wake up and cry for a while, but now I think he's become pretty good at putting himself back to sleep. I was feeding him at 9 and 2:30 to begin with, but last night I fell asleep on the couch and missed the 9 o'clock feeding so I didn't get to him until 10:45 and he hadn't even woken up. His other feeding is at about 3 o'clock. Once I'm sure his weight is okay, I'll start cutting out the overnight feeds, but for now I'm more comfortable making sure he's getting as much milk as possible.

And to round things off, a few pictures:

What's going on now..

Well, we had Beckett in to have him weighed again this past Friday (the 11th of December) and he's up to 12 lb 7 oz and 62.6 cm!! Another 5 oz in the past week, which is great considering his lack of weight gain up until a month ago.

-He's been "talking" so much this last week, like ALL THE TIME!!
-He's doing much better in his exersaucer now. He reaches for all the toys, and really like to spin the toy with the chickens in it.
-He's STILL wearing size 1 diapers, at 21 weeks old (almost 5 months), but I think this will be the last package. I bought size 1-2 diapers to try the next time.
-He's laughing a lot more now, especially when we tickle him.
-He's starting to reach for food when we're eating, and following it with his eyes.
-He's reaching for our faces a lot, too.
-He's fascinated by the dog, he could watch him run around all day, I swear.

This morning I was in the kitchen and Bevan and Beckett were in the living room, and when I went in to see what they were doing, they were lying under the Christmas tree!! And Milo was sitting there, too, of course.

He's becoming a better napper now, too. But, he is totally a boy who needs a schedule at this point. His first nap usually happens 1 1/2 - 2 hours after he gets up for the day, and his subsequent naps are usually 2 hours after that. If he manages to have 3 naps in the run of a day, he's a happy baby, but if he misses one for some reason, he's pretty cranky. His bedtime right now is 7 o'clock, but if he misses a nap he's pretty tired before then. He's finally starting to show some signs when he's sleepy, like rubbing his eyes and kind of grunting/squirming around.

He's eating every 3 hours or so during the day, and for the last month or so, just as often at night.

Our First Post

I really wish I would have started this 6 weeks ago when Beckett was first born, but as a new mother I was just trying to stay alive and awake, so record keeping wasn't top on my list of priorities unfortunately. So I'm saying I'm going to start now, hopefully updated daily or so. We'll see how it goes!!

So, what's going on at 6 weeks at 3 days old??
  • Well, in the last week or so Beckett has started making soooo many more sounds. Lots of cooing and noise on top of the crying sounds he knew how to make in the weeks prior!!
  • We've seen a few more spontaneous smiles in this last week too, although they don't seem to be in response to anything yet.
  • I'm sure he knows his name now, as when I say it he seems like he looks right at me.
  • Still getting up 2-3 times through the night, never sleeping longer than 4 hours at night.
  • He's still eating every 2 hours or so during the day.
  • He seems to be napping a little bit each day around lunch time or so, but I still wouldn't say this is a regular thing as I just let him sleep when he wants to sleep and don't try to force it if he doesn't want to.
  • He's working really hard on holding his head up on his own, but it's still a wee bit floppy.
  • He slept in his crib for the first time 3 nights ago, on Friday, August 28th when he was exactly 6 weeks old.
  • When we give him a bottle it's hard to say how much milk he will drink. On Saturday night we gave him 3 oz. and that wasn't quite enough.
We're still taking tons of pictures but I wish I could say I was staying on top of the photo editing and organization!!!

Beckett wore his first "grown-up" outfit the other night. He wore a little pair of jeans and a white polo onesie and a cute little pair of white sneakers.

I'm finally getting used to being home with him everyday. I wish I could sleep when he sleeps, but I always find so many other things to do.
