Well, it's a day late now, but here are Beckett's St. Patrick's Day photos:
Not much else going on these days. Beckett does have his first bruise!! He's been toppling over forwards lately when he's sitting down. Usually he's trying to reach for something in front of him and falls forward, hitting his head on whatever it is he's trying to reach!!! This bruise is from hitting his walker toy and it's on the right side of his chin. I must try to get a picture, but it's really so little I don't know if you'd even see it!!
He's had cantaloupe to eat and he liked it. I also tried giving him potatoes and parsnips in little pieces the other day, but he didn't seem to like the pieces, so I mashed it and then he gagged on it - I think it was getting stuck to the roof of his mouth. I'm trying to introduce him to some finger foods so he can feed himself a little bit. So far he likes little gerber puffs, but I break them up so small that they're hard for him to grab and get in his mouth!!
Well, 7 months has come. Beckett is now 14 lb 11 oz. I don't think this is too bad considering his recent bout with the stomach flu. It took almost 2 full weeks from when it started for the poor little guy to get his appetite for solids back, plus for most of the first week he didn't even have much of an appetite for breastmilk or anything at all to drink. Thank goodness the vomiting is over though!! Of course, Bevan and I also came down with the same bug - I guess this is the start of new germs coming into the house!!
Beckett is doing a great job sitting up now - he loves to sit up and play with his toys, and plays well independently. It's so cool to watch him now with toys like his learning table and fisher-price walker because he is so much better at pushing the buttons. And he'll do something once, realize that it makes the toy react and then he'll do it over and over and over.
He loves to play peek-a-boo - I think it makes him laugh more than anything else. His love for blowing raspberries took a bit of a break, but it's back in full force now!! I think he forgot about it for a while!!
Still no teeth, and no signs of crawling yet. I'm trying to get him to spend as much time on the floor as possible, but every time he finds his way to his tummy he pretty much just freaks out!!
As for food, up until now he has had sweet potatoes, carrots, chicken, green beans, applesauce, pears, peas, acorn squash. We gave him his first organic baby mum mum this week and today he had toast for the first time - I just gave him dry toast cut up into strips. He mostly just gummed it and made it soggy, but he really likes feeding himself so I try to give him stuff he can practice with.
Beckett and I had a movie date again yesterday. We saw "Valentine's Day" - it was a really good movie, and Beckett was a wonderful date - he was very well behaved, no fussing really. He didn't even nap this time, but within 5 seconds of being in the car afterwards he was fast asleep!!!
We've started "The sleepeasy solution" to deal with overnight feedings. Since he is still under 15lb, I get him up twice during the night to feed him, but other than that he is doing a great job and not waking. We've been doing it for just over a week now and for the first few nights he would wake up and cry for a while, but now I think he's become pretty good at putting himself back to sleep. I was feeding him at 9 and 2:30 to begin with, but last night I fell asleep on the couch and missed the 9 o'clock feeding so I didn't get to him until 10:45 and he hadn't even woken up. His other feeding is at about 3 o'clock. Once I'm sure his weight is okay, I'll start cutting out the overnight feeds, but for now I'm more comfortable making sure he's getting as much milk as possible.
Well, 2 months has come and gone. We took some 2 month photos: We went for Beckett's 2 month needles on Sept 17th. At this appointment he weighed 10lb 7oz!! and was 22" long. He was crying before the nurse gave him the needles (2 in his left leg, 1 in his right) and continued to cry for a minute or so afterwards. Then he just got sleepy. We came home and he had a nap in his crib. Unfortuneatly we also had his 2 month check up with the doctor that afternoon, so I had to wake him from his nap, which led to a VERY cranky baby. He cried the whole time the doctor was in the room again. The doctor said everything looked great, and we were on our way. No more needles or doctors visits until 4 months!!
Beckett has been smiling like crazy, and likes to be talked to. He's been trying very hard to talk back, and is doing lots of cooing. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now.
He had his first trip to Mommy and Daddy's home town a couple of weekends ago on Sept 18th. He slept for the entire drive home, except for a quick wake for some food!!
He also had his first trip to Cape Breton to meet 2 of his great-grandmothers. Once again, he was a great boy for the driving. We did get stopped at construction a couple of times and he woke up when the car stopped moving.
On the way home we stopped in at St. F.X. and got our picture taken by the "Smile You're At X" sign. I've been avoiding dairy because I'm thinking Beckett may have a dairy sensitivity. He seems to be having some belly pains lately and I tried giving up dairy, which seemed to help, but have since started eating it again, and his crankiness/pains came back, so we shall try the no dairy thing again.
I took out Beckett's play mat in the last couple of days and he seems to be getting some enjoyment out of laying there and looking at the toys that hang over his head. He particularly likes the mirror/rattle. He's following things with his eyes sooooo much lately, especially Milo!!
The last 2 days have brought about a napping strike, along with which came an increase in night wakings. Even the car hasn't been putting this little guy to sleep lately. He is napping right now, for the first time since Sunday, we'll see how long it lasts. And he's been fighting sleep worse than ever!! Everytime you think he's asleep and put him down in his crib he's awake again within minutes!!
We had our first trip to the apple orchard on Sunday, Sept 30th for their annual Scarecrow festival. Beckett slept through the entire thing in his wrap!! Not many great opportunities for photos, but we have another trip planned on Thanksgiving weekend so we're hoping to get some better ones then.
Anyways, that's all I can think of that needs updating for now. Sorry for the jumpy post, but I had so much to catch up on and didn't want to leave anything out!!
